In 2003, the WCTV was accepted by the Weimaraner Club of America (WCA) in their Affiliate Club program. This enabled us to begin holding WCA Ratings Test events.
In addition to holding Ratings Tests, the club began holding field/hunt training days. These training days were held at various locations in the Tennessee/Alabama area to provide all club members an opportunity for training. At the same time, the club decided to apply for American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioning to hold field/hunt events. We held a Field Trial Match in 2006, open to all breeds. This was a very successful event and was key to our gaining sanctioning from the AKC in October 2006 to hold All-Breed AKC Field Trials.
Our inaugural Field Trial was held on February 16 - 18, 2007. We look forward to holding more Field Trials and Hunt Tests in the future.
About WCTV
The Weimaraner Club of the Tennessee Valley (WCTV) was established in July 2000 by a group of Weimaraner owners/enthusiasts. The first members had varying experience with Weimaraners, including: Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Field Events, pleasure hunting and family companion.
Field/Hunt events are not all we do. We have members actively competing in Conformation, Agility, Obedience/Rally and Tracking. Highlights of member participation in these events can be found in our member web pages.
In addition, we have several of our members that are active Weimaraner breeders. Information on breeders in our club can be found in our Member Pages.
Above all else, we're pretty much about what is fun for the dogs!
We love to have "Puppy Passing" parties when members have a new litter of puppies. Every summer we have a pool party where everyone brings their dogs...some of the members even swim! We have puppy Camp-outs at members houses with dogs and sleeping bags.
We actively support the local Humane Societies and Rescue groups, by participating in events such as the Huntsville Hunmane Society "Walk Your PAWS" and Dog Ball, as well as helping to transport rescue Weimaraners when called upon.
