Saturday night dinner...what a feast...Chicken, Quail Beef Brisket, Mashed Potato Casserole, Baked Beans, Pasta Salad, Corn, Rolls....even Apple Pie for desert! Hungry?
Before we served dinner Saturday , the WCTV handed out our yearly awards for member dogs that completed any AKC, WCA, NAVHDA or NADAC titles over the past year. I think everyone enjoyed seeing how hard our members and dogs worked and how many titles we had earned.
Steve and Sheri Guillot not only made the Jumbalaya for lunch, but also cooked Beef Brisket with meat sauce, Grilled Chicken and smoked Quail provided by Bob Henderson for dinner. To round out the meal, we had Mashed Potato Casserole, Corn, Baked Beans, Pasta Salad, rolls and homemade Apple Pie. This crew can really cook!
Our Third Field Trial was held on Valentines weekend at Percy Priest Wildlife Management Area in LaVergne, Tennessee. The weekend started off a little rocky when one of the judges called and said he had broken down on the way to the trial. He was 2 and a half hours away and was not going to make his judging assignment on Friday morning. Luckily, another judge volunteered his services, and the first brace got off the line exactly on time. The weather for the start was beautiful, but warmed up into the 60's by early afternoon on Friday. The dogs ran well but started to feel the heat in the afternoon. The WCTV club members provided an excellent spread for lunch: Hamburgers with all the fixins, Chicken Taco soup, Chili, and Cornbread. We started the day with Open Puppy, ran the Open Limited Gun Dog and and completed the day with Open Derby. The day was capped off with a Fish Fry compliments of Jim DeMarco, and cooked by Steve Guillot. The menu was Fish (different kinds), Hush Puppies, French Fries, Cole Slaw and deserts.

Sunday:
Sunday started out the coldest of the three days and was overcast...perfect for the dogs....a little cool for the people. We finished the Amateur Gun Dog and had 6 dogs in the callbacks. Once the callbacks were completed, we went right into the Amateur Walking Derby. By the time the last brace was finished, the Clean-Up crew had almost finished cleaning out the Clubhouse. We handed out the final ribbons and started cleaning the grounds.
Saturday dawned sunny with colder temperatures. First brace was off the line a few minutes earlier than expected, and the dogs were ready to run. We managed to get all of Open Gun Dog run, the judges working right through lunch. Lunch was fantastic with homemade Jumbalaya, Chicken 'n Rice Casserole, Cheese Tortellini Casserole, and Potato Salad. (The lunch crew even providing Jumbalaya and Chicken 'n Rice Casserole in "to go cups" so they could eat in the saddle between braces.) The Amateur Puppy (Weim only) and the first 2 braces of Amateur Gun Dog were complete before we lost the daylight. In the Call backs for Open Gun Dog, we had 6 dogs compete. It was beautiful to see all the dogs work, and we had a full Gallery.
As this writer was getting ready to leave, I noticed several of the judges gathered around a pickup with a horse trailer. I strolled over to see what was going on. There was a flat tire on one of the judges' horse trailer. Quick quiz...How many people does it take to change the tire on a small horse trailer?
It was a great weekend! A chance to see old friends, meet new friends, and spend time in the field with your best friend!
